Speaking OUT to end clergy sexual misconduct.

Thank you to the survivor who recently sent this link to me. The White House has set up NotAlone.gov as a resource for students and school officials in response to the alarming rate of campus sexual assault.

The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault just released their first report. Imagine if the U.S. government turned their attention to clergy abuse! Imagine if the White House gave churches a checklist to evaluate their sexual abuse response policies. Imagine if the Justice Department offered training to church leaders in how to respond to traumatized victims. Imagine if the government helped churches coordinate their response with local police departments and rape crisis centers.

The government will likely never offer this kind of resource for clergy sexual abuse. But when the President, the Vice President, and some of Hollywood’s most successful actors speak out against sexual assault, people pay attention. The culture begins to shift, and that makes all of us a little safer.
