Hi Catherine, I saw your comment on SSB this morning. I rejoice that you feel safe in your ‘new church home’. I covet your prayers as I am in an emotional abusive situation with my husband, adult children and extended family. I have been counseled to leave but apartments are few and my health has deteriorated to me being exhausted. I have been without a church in my small semi-remote community for many years because of spiritual abuse. I have reconnected with several over the last year as I have attempted to gain some support. Some are willing to help me but then I would feel obligated to ‘their church’; I don’t agree with their doctrine. I attempted to use your personal email address but it was not accepted. As time permits, I may want to connect with you.

  2. Thanks so much for writing. I know how devastating emotional abuse can be. I will absolutely keep you in prayer. I’m sorry my email address didn’t work. Did you try replacing “at” with “@” and the “dot” with “.”, and eliminating the spaces around those characters? I spell it out that way on the website in an effort to avoid spam email. Please try again — I look forward to your email.

  3. Hi Catherine, Thanks for your blog. We are a small, grass-roots organization in Canada dedicated to speaking up for victims of CSA. We have listed this website as one of resources offered Our website is http://www.myvoiceback.com.
    God bless you,
    Eileen

  4. Eileen, thank you for letting me know about this great resource. I just added it to the “Victims & Survivors” page, and I’ll highlight MyVoiceBack in an upcoming post. God bless you for being part of this important work.

So happy you are speaking out on this vital topic. The priest who preyed on you preyed on members of my church, also. Revolting, at best. I was able to smudge the entire church & offices to get rid of his deplorable energy….feels better .

    • Amy, I’m so sorry your church was harmed too. It makes me furious at my (former) bishop, who tried to sweep these events under the rug. I tried to make him see that this priest was a menace and a danger, but it seems he was more concerned about avoiding controversy & protecting the church’s image (just like Jesus, right? NOT). I’m very glad you smudged your church & offices. In my opinion, St Paul’s should do the same thing.
In one sense, this priest’s offenses at your church were good news, because the denomination finally woke up and got rid of him. But no amount of good news makes up for the harm he did to his new victims.
Thank you for all the courage and compassion you are showing. Whether you know it or not, your presence makes your church a better and safer place. Kudos & hugs to you and all who support your efforts there.

St. Paul’s should definitely smudge….. they need the purification and negative ions. I’d do it for the air fare…..

      • Haha! We need to meet in person, girlfriend. I’ll be up in the Bay Area sometime in August; I will get in touch if I make it into SF.

Thank you for your kind words. I was pleased the vestry was so open to my smudging suggestion. Yes, your Bishop was so wrong in his approach to this deplorable menace.
